Beating Imposter Syndrome at the Gym
A lot of people in the gym look like they know exactly what they are doing. Most of them are just repeating a routine they learned somewhere. You are not behind because you are still learning.
The truth about experience
Everyone starts as the person checking where the plates go. Competence is built through reps, not personality. You earn comfort by showing up enough times for the room to become familiar.
Tip: Shrink the mission
Do not try to master everything in one session. Pick three lifts, three cues, and one finish line for the day.
Borrow structure
A written plan removes a lot of anxiety. When you know the next exercise, you stop looking around for permission.
Common mistake
Comparing your chapter one to someone else’s year six. Their normal is not your assignment.
What confidence looks like here
It looks like asking if someone is done with a bench. It looks like changing the weight when it is too heavy. It looks like staying teachable without shrinking yourself.
